Born 516 or 518, Died 534
Athalaric succeeded Theoderic at a young age and the administration of Italy was conducted by his mother, Amalasuintha. She intended to have him educated in the Roman style, but other important Goths denied it. Instead he led a life of debauchery that led to the early onset of illness. He died on October 2, 534, and was succeeded by his cousin Theodahad.
